Engaging Lighthouse Technologies, Inc., will allow you to realize the full value of your software systems,
which will save you money and drive increased revenue.
Our scientific approach reduces the defect correction cost and saves clients $3M-$5M.
Based upon our experience and industry statistics, developing a system with 500,000 source lines of code (SLOC)
will initially cost between $6.25M and $10M.On average, 5,000 defects will be
injected into the system during the development process. These defects will be discovered during
unit testing, integration testing, acceptance testing, pilot testing, and in production. Normally,
ten percent (10%) of the defects are critical, and an additional one percent (1%) are killers.
In SEI CMM Level 1 development organizations, with limited QC processes, approximately 80 percent (4,000)
of the defects will have been discovered prior to pilot testing (2,000 are discovered in unit
testing and 2,000 in QA testing.) This leaves approximately 1,000 defects yet to be discovered in pilot
testing and production.
Based upon industry averages and the number of pilot sites, it takes 18-36 months to discover this
many defects. Of those that are discovered, 95 will be critical defects
(major functionality or performance issues), and 9-10 will be killer defects (i.e., system crashes).
Obviously, customers are very dissatisfied when they begin finding large quantities and severe defects.
With Lighthouse's defect prediction and metrics-driven testing approach, we remove 95% of the defects
prior to pilot, and these are discovered and removed, on average, within 3 months. For this size of system,
our approach shortens Time To Market by 15-27 months, allowing for quicker
product revenue, releasing expensive development resources early or using them to provide additional functionality.
